5:2 Diet

The 5:2 Diet, also known as the Fast Diet is program that advocates calorie restriction for two days per week, but unmoderated unrestricted eating fot the other five days per week. This approach is sometimes known as "intermittent fasting".

According to the 5:2 Diet, during the two days of restricted consumption, menu should eat 600 calories, and women 500 calories. Typically a fasting day's diet includes a breakfast of around 300 calories (say 2 scrambled eggs with ham, accompanied by water, green tea, or black coffee), and a light lunch or dinner of grilled fish or meet with vegetables.

Advocates of the 5:2 Diet say that fasting for only two days per week is easier for dieters to comply with than the daily calorie restrictions of typical diets. On the other side however, there is currently only limited evidence about the 5:2 Diet's safety and effectiveness. Additionally, one other concern, is that fasting can sometimes be unsafe, so it is very advisable for people considering the diet to first consult their doctor.

The 5:2 Diet first became popular in the United Kingdom, but its popularity subsequently spread to Europe and the United States of America. The diet gained its initial popularity in Britain, after being featured in a BBC television program in August 2012.
