The Zone Diet

The Zone is a low carbohydrate diet created by Barry Sears, a biochemist. The program recommends eating protein, carbohydrates, and fat, in a specified ratio, as well as eating five times per day (3 meals and 2 snacks with no more than five hours between meals), so as to create a feeling of satiety that is intended to discourage over eating. Glycemic Index, as with many other low-carbohydrate diets, is used to classify carbohydrates (with low GI foods being preferred, and the program also recommends eating monounsaturated fats, as it considers these healthier.

At the time of writing, there seems to be little solid scientific evidence for the theories behind the Zone diet, and its effectiveness (see for example, The Zone Diet phenomenon: a closer look at the science behind the claims).
